About Chrystal Erickson

Chrystal Erickson, MPAS, PA-C, LAT, AT-C, recently joined Breakthrough Regenerative Orthopedics as a physician assistant, working alongside Dr. Mazzola at the Boulder, Colorado, office. While new to the office, she is not new to the field of orthopedics.

Originally from La Plata, Maryland, Chrystal received her undergraduate degree in athletic training from the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. After obtaining her board certification, she started her sports medicine career in a robust outpatient orthopedic clinic in western Kentucky. She then had the fortune to serve the military athletes at The United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, for over 20 years.

While working as a certified athletic trainer at the Air Force Academy, she was responsible for the direct orthopedic patient care of hundreds of NCAA Division 1 athletes. Her clinical roles also involved the health and safety oversight of military physical training of the cadet wing.

Outside work, she has lectured on various orthopedic and sports medicine topics and volunteered at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

After her long tenure serving in the sports medicine world at The Air Force Academy, Chrystal attended physician assistant school at Rocky Vista University in Parker, Colorado. She incorporates her real-world knowledge of orthopedics and sport for every patient and offers individual tailoring of treatment plans aligned with Dr. Mazzola’s model for patient care. Her orthopedic skill and knowledge span over three decades, and she is excited to be with the team at Breakthrough Regenerative Orthopedics.

Chrystal enjoys trail running and yoga. She has summitted half of the Colorado 14ers and completed several half and full marathons. She brings her passion and expertise for sports and the outdoors to her work to help injured patients return to their activities of choice.
